Written for a pal of mine who’s been going through a rough patch.
Hail to the Gods,
Hail to the Goddesses,
Hail to the Holy Mothers,
Hear your daughter in her moment of despair.
Grant her health and healing, that she may be whole to serve you,
and that she may bring grace to her family.
My friend remarked that while we have prayers of praise, there are not many written resources on calling on Them when we’re lost, frightened, ill, or confused. That seems a shame, since our connection to them is what keeps us whole when tragedy strikes. We rarely show our vulnerability in modern society, but it’s very appropriate to show and express to our Gods.
Very beautiful. The explanation I often hear for a lack of these kinds of prayers is a desire to correct the habit within monotheism to only call upon God when you’re in need and to neglect the relationship when times are good. However I agree it’s a bad habit, equally bad is to then refuse to call for help when it is needed. Balance in all things.
I myself wrote such prayers of support and healing to the Gods a year ago, finding that we need mantras for the everyday troubles
Reblogged this on Fire and Ink and commented:
A lovely prayer for assistance.
I’ve been looking at Heathen and prayers, and it seems to be either praise to the gods, or asking them for something but not for help when you are in emotional and/or spiritual need.
I wish there was a prayerbook with prayers for when you are feeling very vulnerable and lost, lonely and fumbling around in darkness, and when it feels like there is no spiritual connection any more.
